Dark eyelids, tired look. Your co-workers think that you partied again last night. The truth is: you have dark circles under your eyes, quite simply. The heroin look is no longer popular: We'll show you what you can do about it!

The cause of dark circles and the misunderstanding with the bags under the eyes

To understand dark circles under the eyes, we have to know: The skin around the eye area is very sensitive, namely three times as thin as the rest of the skin on the face and six times as thin as the skin on the rest of the body. This is because it has a very thin subcutaneous fat and no solid connective tissue. In addition, the vessels in this area are quite fine. If they are not well supplied with blood and if the blood also contains little oxygen, it appears darker and shimmers through the thin skin. The result: dark circles.

The poor blood circulation and thus the dark discoloration under the eyes can be the result of: lack of fluids, insufficient oxygen in the blood vessels, allergies, wrong or poor diet and iron deficiency, drug consumption including alcohol or external influences such as environmental toxins. What can also be hereditary hyperpigmentation.g.

(Look into my eyes, but not the dark circles below: Lack of sleep and stress can be the cause of dark circles.)

However, we have to clear up one misunderstanding: bags under the eyes are not dark circles, even if some use these terms almost synonymously.

First we all have bags under the eyes, namely to the side of the nasal bone.Secondly we speak ofswollen bags under the eyeswhen the eyelids are chronically swollen.

This comes with age: weakened connective tissue and slack muscles give way as fluid builds up in this area. The result is a bag under the eye that can make you look pretty old. You can endure this with dignity or have it surgically corrected. But that's another story that we leave to the surgeon.n.

If you develop permanently swollen bags under the eyes, you should first consult a doctor: It could be an indication of a weak heart, kidney disease or an allergy.

What can I do about dark circles??

  1. Good facial care with urea: Doctors advise using a skin care cream for the face that has a balanced proportion of urea. Urea is a perfect and effective moisture binder and quickly helps with dark eyelidsn (more here). We developed our Hydra Defense Cream in such a way that it contains urea for an extra freshness kick. It also forms a protective film on the skin that keeps you away from harmful environmental influences. You get the creamin our shop.
  2. Cool: If you give your eyelids freshness, moisture and coldness, this stimulates their blood circulation. Cucumber slices or quark for 20 minutes on the lids are well suited for this. Occasionally, some advisors also suggest using chilled tea bags of black or green tea or hemorrhoid creams, but this is not without risk: They may contain substances that cause allergic reactions. Therefore, if in doubt, do without it.n.
  3. Move! Sport is perfect for getting your circulation going and promoting your blood circulation. We have read that stepping, hopping or jumping rope have a preventive effect on bags under the eyes, as this reduces the accumulation of fluid in the tissue. Whether that's true or not, movement doesn't hurt.
  4. Fluid balance: Make sure you drink enough. Incidentally, this is also good for your skin in general: liquid has a vitalising effect, promotes blood circulation and makes you fresh. It almost goes without saying: You are well taken care of here with water or unsweetened tea. Not with alcohol or sweet drinks.
  5. Balanced nutrition: If you eat too little or too greasy or if you are deficient in iron, dark circles are likely. Make sure that you are eating well. This is not only good for your skin, but for your body as a whole.
  6. Quiet: Lack of sleep and stress lead to dark circles under the eyes, so you should make sure you get enough sleep and reduce stress. Try to develop a healthy sleep rhythm; and if the job is too stressful for you, treat yourself to a break, a walk, a round of sport or whatever you like and do you good!!
  7. Dispense: Smoking, drugs, alcohol. If you want to have dark circles as fast and long as possible, you put everything together. We advise against it. In this sense:

#staysober and good luck with your dark circles!
